What is Geotargeting in Google AdWords?

And how can you use it to legitimately "steal" an extra, precious, line of ad space in your AdWords ads?
Many advertisers will set up their campaigns by using multiple locations they wish to target in their keyword lists, like
- care homes in Houston
- care homes in (district of Houston)
- care homes in (another district of Houston)
- Houston care homes
- (district of Houston) care homes
- (another district of Houston) care homes
But there is a more effective way to reach a local, national and even international audience looking for care homes in Houston, without laboriously creating keyword lists containing every related district of Houston, Texas, USA.
AdWords ads can be targeted to show on Google search results pages depending on where the campaign settings are focused, like a country (USA), metropolitan area ("Texas"), city ("Houston"), or even a radius from a given centre.
Although not infallible, this mechanism uses the IP address unique to every computer online to allow advertisers very fine and extremely reliable control over where their ads appear.
By geotargeting your campaign to only display ads in Houston, Texas, USA, in your campaign settings, Google knows that your campaign is intended for this specific audience *without the need for Houston (or related districts)* in your keywords. So now all you need is a much smaller and more manageable keyword list:- care home
- care homes
- etc.And you achieve the following benefits:
- local users looking for "care homes" (without Houston) will still see your ad- you’ll catch these local users earlier in their searches before they are forced to expand their range if results are poor- they also see an extra line of ad text containing your Houston location
- national and international users see your ad also, as Google knows it’s what they are looking forNeed more help with your AdWords campaigns? Call us today, Skype, email, or use this contact form.
