AdWords Networks – Search, Partner and Content Mistakes Explained
Jul 3rd, 2009 | By David Rothwell | Category: ARTICLES
The AdWords Networks are very different, and should be treated separately. So start your new campaigns with Google Search ONLY.
You need to test your first campaigns with the best quality traffic you can get.
The default setting for new campaigns always includes all three networks, but they each behave very differently.
Make sure you turn off all except Google.
Search Partners are typically portals or other websites that have a Google search box on them – look for "Powered by Google".
Traffic quantity tends to be higher and poorer than Search.
Content campaigns are very different altogether, and run in themed ad groups rather than individual keywords.
Your ads will show on other people’s websites where contextually relevant, and traffic volumes are typically very high with very low CTR.
They are well worth testing (traffic can be much cheaper, and individual sites targeted) but should be tried carefully once you know exactly what you are doing.

With “Search partners” are they located all over the world or are they only located in the area that your Google search campaign is targeting???
If it is all over the world, is there a way that you can only target where your Google search is. In my instance UK?
Michael
Hi Michael,
Search Partners are indeed all over the world, but your campaign settings govern where your ads show.
So if you have a UK-targeted Search Partner campaign, UK is where your Search Partners will show your ads.
Not even Google can provide a definitive list of all the partners, except the major ones like Lycos.
Wherever you see a search box “powered by Google” – that’s a Search Partner.
Traffic is usually much poorer in results, although click costs can be lower.
Personally, I would probably only use this network in conjunction with Conversion Optimizer campaigns, when scaling up.
Hello David,
I have an adwords account, and I am trying to advertise through it, everything on my account is approved, but the ads are not showing,
I mean I am not getting any clicks or impressions, and all it says in contact support, from where am not getting reply.
The account number is 862-008-5670
Can you look into it and inform me.
Best Regards,
TNK

It’s likely your campaign has gone in to manual review.
